What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Community members support their local producers - whether it be vegetable farmers, flower farmers, or beekeepers - by purchasing a seasonal subscription at the front end. Generally, this is before peak harvest and when business may be more slow. In our case, you would be purchasing a CSA Flower Subscription (aka share) of seasonal flowers from Huneebee-maintained pollinator plots!

By participating, you are…

  • Investing in our operations. Providing funds up front to help cover initial outlay when funds are more scarce. This includes everything from bulbs, seeds, irrigation supplies, soil preparation, and anything else needed for growing beautiful flowers.

  • Saving the bees! Every bloom grown for your bouquets doubles as a vital foraging source for the kept and local pollinators buzzing around New Haven.

  • Supporting job skills training for local youth. Proceeds from our social enterprise are invested back in to our youth training programs, diversifying our revenue streams and decreasing our reliance on grants and private donations, while supporting our continued growth.

2025 Share Offerings

Our pesticide-free blooms are grown in Huneebee’s operated Rosette Street Flower Farm in New Haven. We carefully select seeds that are regionally appropriate, pollinator friendly, and offer a diversity of colors, textures, and ambiance.

Limited Shares

While our small, but mighty flower garden is growing every year, we limit shares to ensure full, quality bouquets every time you pick up!

16 weeks of flowers

CSA bouquets will be harvested on Fridays and Saturdays from June to October and be available for pick up at the Edgewood Park Farmers Market on Sundays.

How our flower subscription works

Every flower CSA operates a little differently, which is what makes it so uniquely special. Here's what you can expect from ours.

JANUARY - FEBRUARY | Planning and Plotting

Up until March, our flowers are but seeds and ideas and spreadsheets. We go through hundreds of flower varieties and select seeds that are regionally appropriate and have a range of bloom times from early spring through late fall. We look at flowers that will pop, flowers that will serve more of a supporting role, and flowers that can gracefully fill between the two.

MARCH - MAY | All Available Shares are Claimed

Filling all of the available CSA shares is important because it allows us to plan appropriately for the warmer harvesting months. In the process, senior members of our team model and younger folks on our team learn: forecasing, variations in bloom times, marketing techniques, and tips to operating a successful farmers market stand. They develop a host of skills, including those related to communication, responsibility, and problem solving.

MARCH - MAY | Building and Planting

As CSA shares are being filled, we begin working to grow the lil’ seedlings into beautiful full flowers. We plant seedlings in small starter pots, first indoors and under grow lights, and we stagger the planting schedule so we can have have yields for 16 weeks. We build our garden beds, fill them with soil, and hug the Huneebee volunteers who always show up when we need them most.

JUNE - OCTOBER | Harvesting and Collection

The last thing we do is harvest your flowers! We cut them early in the morning, transport to our headquarters, arrange the bouquets, and keep them safe and cool until they’re ready for pick up.
